PICNIC

INSPIRATION FOR A MEAL OUTSIDE

This is a page of ideas. An assortment of foods that, mixed and matched, make lovely music together under a tree or on a blanket, by a stream or in a garden. Some of these things we have made here in the Sac(k) before so I will link you around and we can play with how all of these foods come together to make a meal. Not everything needs to be made from scratch as you can always buy a baguette from the store or pick up a rotisserie chicken. As a matter of fact, you could go straight to your deli and get all the things you might want for a good picnic spread. Or you can make it yourself. Options are unlimited. I will give you all the tools and tutorials of how to make it all in your kitchen if you dare go the scratch route. It is not as hard as you might think, it is just in the planning. It will ultimately be something everyone will enjoy with a baguette sandwich in one hand and a strawberry handpie in another.

A simple recipe for Green Beans and Vinaigrette and a basic Potato Salad:

FOR BEANS:

Trim the stems of beans and boil in water until tender. Remove, strain and cover with vinaigrette and salt and pepper

FOR THE POTATO SALAD:

Boil potatoes with skin on until tender. Cut while still warm and put in bowl>. Add chopped red onion, dill, chives, salt and pepper and vinagrette to the hot potatoes. Let cool before adding the mayonaisse, just enough to coat the potatoes and make them creamy.

FIND SOME LOVELY CHEESES AND SOME MEATS TO GO WITH YOUR BREADS. PERHAPS SOME BUTTER TOO.

Here I have layered tomatoes with mozzarella and basil from the garden. A mix of salami, pepperoni and prosciutto. A nice herbed cheese to slice and good butter to spread.
